Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797782 By Pamela Page. By Charles Williams and Cheri Williams. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and parts. 24 pages. Derek Hasted #5790447. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797782). THE DREAM OF OLWEN - One of two GUITAR DUETSFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes I have made two arrangements of this lovely piece. This edition contains the more accessible arrangement - ideal for an intermediate duo or a student/teacher duo. Visit my website (below) to easily find the other version. This fantastic piece was written as an integral part of the film 'While I Live', and such is the power and emotion in the music, it has achieved a recognition that has far outlasted the film.My arrangement for two guitars captures all of the original, fiendishly difficult, piano composition, but uses the sweet tone of the guitar to add quality, rather than quantity, to the notes, creating a soundscape that works effectively and makes a wonderful concert piece lasting almost 4 minutes. The centre section has a simpler accompaniment than the original to avoid an overly fussy and unsatisfactory sound. Elsewhere the accompaniment is less rhythmically busy than the original, yet the chords are retained. There are two arrangements in this one edition...Version 1 allocates the music to the players as if they were the left and right hands of the piano piece - ideal for a duo in which one player is technically stronger than the other (for example a student/teacher duet).Version 2 swaps the roles around at the phrase boundaries and suits a well-matched duo.The choice of which you play is yours...The arpeggios are fingered because they generally only work well in one position. The melody, by contrast, is unfingered; it is chromatic and so there is no place on the neck where all the notes are accessible. Itâs really a matter of personal choice where you change position and whether you prefer to stay high up the neck or venture down to get a brighter tone.Dedicated to the memory of my maternal grandmother Olwen

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899127 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3037161. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899127). Transcription for solo classical guitar. 4 pages. Richard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time â¦' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the soprano voices, som.

Derek Hasted #6109013. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797799). LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE - GUITAR TRIO or LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This charming piece has become incredibly well-known in the UK as the theme tune to the TV series of the same name - one of the UKâs longest running comedies. The music elegantly captures the calm of country life and the simplicity of times gone by, and makes for a refreshing and accessible concert item whether you know the original music or not.In my arrangement, Guitar 1 and Guitar 2 take turns to play the tune - each part is clearly labelled - and the weaving motifs of the haunting melody are underpinned by an accompaniment that mirrors the rhythm and harmony of the original.Fingering for the upper parts is left to the players - some may want to stay up the neck throughout for a rich and mellow tone, others may feel more confident coming lower down the neck for the lower notes to keep the majority of them off the wire-wound strings.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. THE SUSSEX CAROL - Very playable arrangement for GUITAR TRIO or larger ensembleFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This is perfect as an easy-to-play addition to any Christmas Concert. This charming English carol is arranged here for 3 early intermediate guitars (or a larger ensemble). This was captured and written down by Cecil Sharp, the Folk Song collector, and by Ralph Vaughan Williams who heard it in Horsham, in Sussex. My arrangement gives everyone a chance to play the tune, and each of the verses has a slightly different texture. There are also key changes so that each verse seems to move up a gear.It can be played entirely in the first and second position, or more experienced players may want to take the higher notes further up the neck. The tune is indicated by a change of volume, but please feel free to add other volume and/or tone changes to make the performance âyoursâ.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Published by Daniel Dombrowski (A0.1206563). **NOTE: This arrangement is written for ukulele in low G tuning.**An intermediate/advanced-intermediate chord melody arrangement of the classic song, arranged to introduce students to the song and then challenge them to have some fun with it. The first verse is fairly faithful to the original melody, with a few simple rythmic fills to cover open measures. The second verse utilizes 16th-note runs and chords further up the neck to add interest, mimic the building intenity of the big band in classic recordings, and challenge the student. The piece sounds great at a relaxed tempo but can be sped up for more of a challenge. It is presented in standard notation with tablature and chord names aboves the staff.

Derek Hasted #6056615. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797796). WATCHING THE WHEAT - GUITAR TRIO or LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This charming Welsh song, Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn, is a three verse song tinged with sadness. There are two versions of my arrangement in this one edition. The first is in conventional âSATB styleâ, where the three guitars play tune, harmony and bass lines. It would suit a mixed ability ensemble where the tune player is comfortable to move up the neck. The second rotates the roles so that each player takes a different role in each verse and each player has the tune at one point. It would suit a more evenly matched ensemble as the tune deserves a consistent tone and volume across the three verses. The two versions share the same notes.Thereâs no fingering on the score (except in a few arpeggio sections where there is a chance to minimise finger movements). This is because a more skilled ensemble might enjoy taking the parts up the neck to achieve a rounder and more lyrical tone,I hope you enjoy playing this piece! The MUNSTERS Theme - GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes There are two arrangements in this single item...Beethoven it isnât, but itâs a fun novelty item to play in a school concert or even an informal adult concert. This arrangement is based on one I wrote for my Guitar WorkshopThere are two versions of the piece in this file - theyâre identical apart from who plays what whenVersion 1 is ideal for a Student/Teacher duet - the Teacher plays the bass part, and the student takes the tune (or vice-versa!)Version 2 is great for a performance at any level between two players with comparable tone and volume - the parts swap over when the music is repeated - you'll see the change at the point marked B in the scores.Iâve left the fingering for the players to decide - we all have different abilities and the choice about when to go up the neck is always going to be a personal one.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1277944). LOCAL HERO - WILD THEME - Bb CLARINET and GUITAR DUETSuits Classical, Acoustic or Electric Guitar Derek Hasted writes Rightly described as an astonishingly beautiful piece, this music from the film Local Hero actually features twice on the soundtrack album, in different keys with different solo instruments. My arrangement for Bb clarinet and classical guitar exploits the sustain of the clarinet and the soft tones of nylon strings and works well at a slightly more modest pace compared to the original. Iâve taken the theme from the closing soundtrack version, where the melody is clear and powerful. My arrangement includes one or two little bits of Mark Knopflerâs quasi-improvised variations on the tune. Note that the guitar part is played with a Capo on the first fret so that both players can enjoy an accessible key signature. The guitar part goes up the neck, and the position numbers are relative to the Capo (ie one fret higher than if there was no Capo fitted). There are no dynamics, but the changing texture of the accompaniment creates the illusion of dynamic changes and you are welcome to add phrasing and dynamics to make the performance âyoursâ.The guitar part is a little challenging at speed but this will suit confident intermediate players. This enjoyable concert item has a wonderfully captivating melody that the audience will be humming all the way home...I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797751 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Film/TV,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 15 pages. Derek Hasted #4793235. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797751). COWKEEPER'S TUNE (TV's Woodentops theme) - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This arrangement is taken from a String Nonet version (2 first violins, 2 second violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos and 1 double bass). It makes a great quartet for a guitar ensemble of modest ability, and those with more experience will be able to generate a wonderful soundscape with a rich clear overall sound. The pitch range of the original has to be compressed onto the pitch range of a guitar ensemble and Iâve achieved this by raising the lower voices, rather than altering the top voice, where the piece calls for a lighter texture. The dynamics of the original are retained in my arrangement, but the fingering is left to the players... Playing the lower parts up the neck will give a rich, cello-like, sound, but a first position performance will be robust and will use many familiar guitar shapes. This is a charming, gentle, pastoral piece and the sweet sound of the guitar suits it well. Those UK players of a certain age might just remember that this music introduced The Woodentops, a childrenâs string-puppet TV series which ran in black and white from 1955 till 1957, and was regularly repeated until 1973.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

Score and parts. 15 pages. Derek Hasted #654656. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1050289). A KISS At The End Of The RAINBOW (A Mighty Wind) - VOICE + GUITAR (Score + tab)For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This poignant song is from the film âA Mighty Windâ. If you havenât seen it, itâs your duty as a musician to see it right now!Set originally for voice, two guitars, bass and autoharp, my arrangement for voice and guitar captures key parts of the countermelody and includes the instrumental break of the original in a very accessible arrangement. The original was performed on guitar with a Capo on fret 2, and my arrangement is no different - it makes a guitar part that is easy to play and which uses familiar shapes. The Lead Sheet has the vocals, the lyrics and the guitar chords. Iâve also included a fingerpicking âNotation onlyâ Guitar Part and a âNotation + Tabâ Guitar part - the latter is rather large for a music stand! As it stands, the vocal range is A below middle C to B 9 notes above - mezzo or baritone. For a lower voice, just take the capo off the guitar - for a higher voice move it up the neck a little! The vocals can be sung be a single voice or by male and female voices (see the Lead Sheet). I hope you enjoy this gentle and moving piece; I am sure your audiences will too...

Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314698 Composed by Richard Hirsch. Instructional. Educational Exercises. 8 pages. Richard Hirsch #903442. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1314698). Many amateur guitarists and beginning students of guitar are âstuck in the first positionâ. The rest of the fretboard is âterra incognitaâ. They donât know where the notes are and they donât know how to get to them and use them in playing melodies. To help remedy this situation, I offer a collection of scales and exercises I have developed over the years that have helped me master the fretboard of the guitar and that I have used to warm up my left and right hands before practicing or playing proper pieces. Guitarists afraid to move up the fretboard miss out on all the tonal nuances that the guitar has to offer. They also often have undeveloped left hand technique with a little finger that flies around helplessly and uselessly. These scales and exercises will, if played regularly, put the little finger to good use and guide the left hand to orient to the fretboard properly, staying close to the fretboard with fingers that move as little and as efficiently as possible. They are also relaxing and fun to play around with. I read somewhere a while back that medical science had found that pianists were less likely to develop brain diseases. The scientists attributed this to the many hours pianists spend playing scales, as this is like a gentle brain massage. So scales are not only good warm up exercises for the fingers but also good warm-ups for the brain. The scale exercises written here in the keys of G and C should be played in different keys in higher positions on the fretboard. Students can try to see just how far up the neck they can go to reach the highest notes. After a while, what seemed challenging and strange will start to feel comfortable and familiar. Donât hesitate to develop new variants of the scales when you grow tired of playing them as I propose here. Have fun playing and playing with the scales! The exercises often start in one position and move toward other higher or lower positions on the fretboard. When moving from one position to another, follow the suggested fingerings to utilise what is called a lead finger to move the hand to the next position. This will make the movement smooth and not interrupt the flow of the scale. In the end all movement should look and feel seamless and effortless.I have chosen scales in major keys I think are particularly good to play on the guitar. To practice a scale in a minor key, start the exercise in the related major key from the fundamental of the minor key, for example, to play an E minor scale start the G major exercise on an E and play from there. This is one way of creating new variants of these scales. Another way to vary the exercises is to play the scales in different time signatures or rhythms.I believe these exercises are particularly helpful for amateur guitarists who play in ensembles of different kinds, duos, trios, quartets, where the guitarist often only has one melodic line to play. Such melodies often sound much better played in higher positions where the guitar can be made to sing, rather than in the first position where the same tones, especially on open strings, often sound rather dull. From my own experience, I find that when I play a melody in a higher position using all the fingers of the left hand, the melody not only sounds better, the fingers remember the melody better.Â

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899109 Composed by Richard Strauss…

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899109 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 2 pages. Maggie Creek Music #25787. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899109). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicRichard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. A problem was to capture the distinct register o.

Derek Hasted #4592161. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797745). MAMMA MIA (Abba) - GUITAR QUARTET/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This piece is in the same key as the original and, although suitable for ensembles from early intermediate upwards, it still has all the sections of the original and plenty of drive and power. Less experienced players will find everything is in the first three positions on the neck, but there is no fingering because more experienced players will want to take the music further up the neck for a more compelling sound. Please add your own fingering and dynamics and make this *your* performance!Guitar 4 is supplied in treble and bass clefs to suit classical, acoustic or bass guitars. In a large ensemble it will be even better to have some players on each version of Guitar 4.The piece has a lot of syncopation, but this arrangement is written so that in most places there is either a metronomic beat from the bass, or several sections have the same syncopation, so that it locks together well. This will work well in a school concert, and as a contrast or encore in an adult ensemble concert too.I hope you enjoy this piece!

JAMAICA FAREWELL - easy arrangement for 4 GUITARS/large ensembleFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes There are 3 ways to play my straightforward and accessible arrangement which comprises melody, countermelody, accompaniment and bass.1) For a mixed ability ensemble, simply play the intro (up to letter A), repeat 2 or more times from A to B, and then jump to E. The melody requires a little confidence up the neck, the other parts stay in first position - each part has a fixed role.2) If you play the full version, each of the 4 parts takes a verse of melody, countermelody, accompaniment and bass in turn.3) If you play the â+ percussion effectsâ version, thereâs a simple âdrum breakâ in the last two verses, and everyone has a chance to play the effects. For a larger ensemble, allocate parts from both arrangements - everything fits together!I hope you enjoy performing this well-known piece. This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts.
